In collaboration with physicians and scientists in Zambia and Colorado, we published a case report of dual occurance of schistosomiasis hepatosplenic disease and sickle cell trait, who was found on right heart catheterization to have pulmonary hypertension largely due to high cardic output. We then attempted to model the disease by exposing sickle cell transgenic mice to S. mansoni, and found they did not develop additive pulmonary hypertension. This study was published in Pulmonary Circulation.
